Plan a route

This is the back-office playbook for planning a route on a load: create the route from an origin and destination, review the path Offload proposes, adjust the waypoints, save, then get it to the driver. It's written for dispatchers and route planners working on a computer.

Create the route

Start from the load you're routing. A planned route always begins with an origin and a destination, which Offload pre-fills from the load or its project when it can.

   Open the load and go to Permits & Routing

   Open the load, then open the Permits & Routing tab.

   Click Add Planned Route

   Click Add Planned Route. The Create Route dialog opens.

   Set the origin and destination

   Check the Origin and Destination fields. They're pre-filled from the load when available. Adjust either one with the address lookup if you need a different start or end point.

   Click Create Route

   Click Create Route. Offload builds the route and opens it in the route editor.

The Create Route dialog is where every planned route starts.

Review the proposed route

When the editor opens, Offload has already proposed a path. The planner avoids restricted roads for your vehicle's dimensions, so adjustments are usually small touch-ups, not a rebuild.

   Read the route on the map

   The proposed path is drawn on the map, jurisdiction by jurisdiction.

   Open the Waypoints tab

   The editor opens on the Waypoints tab, which lists every waypoint in order. Switch to the Directions tab to read the turn-by-turn the driver will see.

   Hover to locate a waypoint

   Hover a waypoint in the list to highlight it on the map, so you can see exactly where it falls before you move anything.

Adjust the waypoints

Nudge the route onto the roads you want. The route recalculates as you go, so you see the effect of each change right away.

   Drag a waypoint

   Drag any waypoint on the map to move the route through a different point.

   Add a missing waypoint

   Double-click the map where you want the route to pass to drop a new waypoint there.

   Recheck the path

   Confirm the recalculated route follows the roads you intend before you save.

Save and send it to the field

Save locks in your edits, then get the route to the driver.

   Click Save Changes

   Click Save Changes in the editor header. The button is active only when you've made an edit.

   Export or let it ride along

   Export the saved route as a PDF turn-by-turn guide for printing or email, or let it ride along in the driver's app on the load.

   Driver picks it up

   The driver follows the exact roads you approved when they tap Start Navigation on their phone or tablet.
