Resource Assignment
Resources are the people and equipment that make your loads move. Digital Dispatch gives you 2 ways to assign them: drag-and-drop from the Resource Grid or selection modals.
Types of resources
- Drivers — The people operating your trucks
- Trucks — Power units assigned to haul loads
- Trailers — Flatbeds, lowboys, RGNs, and other trailers attached to trucks
- Equipment — Escorts, cranes, and other specialized equipment needed for a load
The Resource Grid
The Resource Grid is the panel on the left side of the Load Cards and Crew Board views. It lists all your available resources, grouped by type.
Filtering by type
Use the tabs at the top of the Resource Grid to filter by resource type:
- All — Show every resource
- Drivers — Show only drivers
- Trucks — Show only trucks
- Trailers — Show only trailers
- Equipment — Show only equipment
Resource status indicators
Each resource in the grid shows its current status:
- Available — Ready to be assigned
- Dispatched — Assigned to a load but not yet moving
- In Transit — Currently on the road with a load
- On Site — At the job site
- Unavailable — Blocked due to PTO, maintenance, or other reasons
Resources with upcoming unavailability (PTO, scheduled maintenance) display that information so you can plan around it.
Assigning a driver
Drag-and-drop
- Find the driver in the Resource Grid
- Drag the driver onto a crew card or project card
- Drop to assign
Selection modal
- Click the driver assignment button on a crew card (the person icon)
- Search for and select a driver from the modal
- Confirm the assignment
Default truck
When you assign a driver who has a default truck configured, Offload offers to assign that truck automatically. This saves a step when a driver always uses the same truck.
Assigning a truck
Drag-and-drop
- Find the truck in the Resource Grid
- Drag the truck onto a crew card
- Drop to assign
Selection modal
- Click the truck assignment button on a crew card (the truck icon)
- Search for and select a truck from the modal
- Confirm the assignment
Assigning trailers and equipment
Trailers and equipment are assigned to loads or commodities rather than to crews.
Drag-and-drop
- Find the trailer or equipment in the Resource Grid
- Drag it onto a load card or project card
- Drop to assign it to the load
Selection modal
- Click the trailer/equipment assignment button on a load card
- Search for and select the resource from the modal
- Confirm the assignment
Commodity-level assignments
When a load has multiple commodities, you can assign trailers and equipment to specific commodities. This is useful when different commodities on the same load require different trailer types.
Removing an assignment
To unassign a resource:
- Find the assigned resource on the crew card or load card
- Click the x on the resource tag
- Confirm the removal
You can also unassign all resources from a project at once using the project action menu and selecting Unassign All Crew.
Handling conflicts
Offload prevents double-booking:
- Same truck on the same load — You can’t assign the same truck to multiple setups on the same load.
- Same driver/truck on the same project and date — A driver or truck can only appear once per project per day.
- Overwrite confirmation — If a crew already has a driver or truck assigned, Offload asks you to confirm before replacing the existing assignment.
When you assign a resource that’s already committed elsewhere, a confirmation dialog explains the conflict and lets you choose how to proceed.
